Ichigo Kurosaki is someone who has always said to have a scary expression. On the outside he usually wears a scowl, and often times that meant that people wanted to stay away from him. He seems to be rather scary, but that's just the outward appearance of his. Normally he doesn't smile very often, only when he feels truly happy, or even confident. He is a kind individual, even leaving flowers and other offerings for the ghosts that he had seen in the area. Being a Shinigami means that he's able to send them away properly, but that doesn't mean he won't leave flowers for them. Secretly he is a big softie, even through all his frowning and groaning about certain situations. A prime example of this came about when Rukia, after having returned proceeding her recovery in Soul Society, joined up with him again in order to fight the Espada. Ichigo wasn't in full compliance with her wanting to stay with his family again, and he denied her, but in the end he allowed her to stay despite how unhappy he looked about it. He is always willing to help out his friends no matter what. When Ichigo is constantly smiling however, that is when something is truly wrong with him. If something is going on with him internally and he doesn't want others to know, then he'll just smile at them. Everyone seems to know that something is seriously wrong with him at that point, but that is just how he handles any sort of inner turmoil he is going through.
He doesn't like to involve people if he can help it, because he wants to be the one to protect the people closest to them. This usually either worries or aggravates people, but he's willing to become someone that no one wants to deal with even if it means protecting them from whatever they need protecting from. An example of this would be when Orihime disappeared for a time, and he was blaming himself for not being able to protect her. Tatsuki, her best friend, attacked him demanding to know where Orihime was. Ichigo took the hits and then said nothing to her, only to walk away while telling her not to associate with him.
Ichigo takes protecting the people around him to a whole new degree. He is willing to do whatever it takes to be stronger for the sake of everyone else, and to do what he believes is right and be the one to take out whoever is causing the most amount of trouble. He has even gone so far as to blame himself and get himself into a slump over not being able to protect people. He usually just needs a boost from someone else in order to get back to normal, but it has happened more than once since he cares so much about being the one to protect them all. He is usually the first to rush into battle due to this, and he wants to be the one to settle things so no one else can get hurt. He enjoys being the one to protect and being the hero. The best way to harm him is not to hurt him physically, but to cause harm to anyone else he cares about.
Since he is the first to rush forward, this also means that he is overly hotheaded in many instances. Ichigo has a short temper and will clash with anyone that tick him off. This has been seen many times over the course of the series, either over little annoyances or something big to deserve being angry, but either way- Ichigo is generally mad at something or someone. An example of him getting angry over something small would be when he would be forced to train in an awkward sort of way. There was a time when he had to use a machine to waste all of his spiritual energy when training with the Visored and he got angry and tossed the machine at them all. Another instance would be when he was training with Ginjo after regaining his Fullbring powers, he was ticked off about how many pushups he was being forced to do and refused to do anymore. In both instances after he had been explained just why he had to take part in such mundane exercising he complied and trained with full force again.
